Sorenson Pond
The City of Williston required a 62-acre feet water storage pond to service oil-field production services. The development consisted of approximately 60,000 cubic yards of earth work, a 24-feet high embankment, about 192,000 square feet of pond liner, and a dual 16-inch water service line and valve control to connect into exiting off-site water facilities.
The site selection was finished before Alliance Consulting was brought on to the project. The constraints posed some significant challenges to completion, including existing gas lines, downstream properties and granular soil types. The soil on site was not suitable for pond construction and Alliance designed an alternative solution using HDPE pond liner. The firm also completed a breach analysis to determine downstream effect, using current computer models to simulate downstream flow to identify probable boundary of floodwaters. The pond was classified as a medium hazard dam due to potential impact downstream.
Alliance Consulting provided engineering design services, including topographic survey of existing conditions, geotechnical exploration and design coordination, breach analysis and reporting, permitting, and CACO and construction staking services.
